Curriculum for Excellence

Staff in the 3-5 playroom use 'A Curriculum for Excellence' when planning and supporting childrens learning and development.

It focuses on the importance of knowledge and skills and will support children in every way possible so that they can fulfil their potential and make the most of their opportunities.

The importance of developing children's literacy and numeracy skills has been clearly recognised as being vital in everyday life and is the responsibility of all those working with our children.

All staff also have a shared responsibility for children's health and wellbeing helping to promote confidence, independent thinking and positive attitudes as this is central to effective learning.

The Curriculum for Excellence recognises that children's learning goes beyond their nursery experiences and promotes close partnership working with family, community and schools.

The aim of our curriculum is to improve our children's achievements and life chances, to nurture successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.

As part of the curriculum, at Green Apple Nursery we provide a variety of extra curricular activities, such as, Jackie from Music with Anne Dante and JD from Enjoy-A-Ball.

Together We Can and We Will

Together We Can and We Will provides the opportunity to design and deliver a curriculum for children aged 0-5 years who will lead their learning and educators will provide meaningful learning experiences which reflect the child's interest and stimulating spaces and environments.

It considers children's developmental stages and focuses on the developing baby, toddler and young child and this focusses on key aspects of learning. These are identified as:

  • Health and Well-being - focusses on children's emotional, personal, social and physical development.
  • Communication - focusses on children's language and literacy skills
  • Creativity - focusses on the development of critical thinking, open-mindedness, curiosity, problem solving and imagination

Together We Can identifies learning goals which reflect children's developmental milestones. These learning goals are used to plan for children's learning and supports progression in learning and actively promotes children and families engagement.
